Barry Schwartz On Wisdom

Posted in Wasting Other's Time by mynameisedge on April 20, 2009

Just trying out this new-fangled TED talk embedding with one of the most inspiring TED’s I’ve had the good fortune to come across, Barry Schwartz talking about true wisdom and the uselessness of bureaucracy. I’m dying to read his book The Paradox of Choice …basically because the blurb sounds exactly like my life half the time.

Have a read of this New Yorker review. There’s a lot here to digest, but I think this theory of choice-overload crippling our brains and forming our behaviour is incredibly relevant today, especially in advertising. If nothing else, it’s a nice way to explain to clients why putting fifty logos on an ad is a bad idea.

UPDATE: Turns out his talk on The Paradox Of Choice is up on the site too, check it out…
